Ground Effect of Rotor

The project is aimed at design of rotor blades, which will be used in the region of ground effect. Especially this will be used to correlate experimental measurements to theoretical analysis of ground effect. To be able measure lift as altitude increase, to check the forces being produced at different rpm and at different altitudes in order to determine ground effect on rotor. Student will design and build a test rig quantify ground effect for 0.5m diameter rotor. This is a journal description that is suggested by my teacher how the test rig should be. You need to be able to spin the rotor at a constant speed, which is adjustable. This could be using a d.c. motor with a variable d.c. voltage supply (look at speed control of a d.c. motor? I don?t even expect that this will be closed loop control necessarily).

The rotor needs to be free to spin of course, but also needs to be able to apply an upwards force, which you need to be able to measure. This could be done using any force measuring device. Even a spring balance might be OK, but there are probably better load sensors you could use. So, you measure the mass of the rotor system when static and measure the mass of the same system when rotating and the difference is the lift.
