It is a case study and is found in the Crane and Matten text (pages 383 to 387)
I will see if I can find the text book and scan and upload. The instructions will be uploaded and is under Assignment 2.

Assignment I
Select a business ethics problem or dilemma you have faced or which has arisen in an
organization of which you have been part, either as an employee, a student, or a
1. Briefly discuss the basic details of the case, and identify and discuss the main ethics
issues involved. (100 words)
2. Set out the main responses, solutions, or courses of action that could have been taken or
considered in relation to this problem. (200 words)
3. Evaluate these options using a theory discussed in Module 4 of the study book and
Chapter 3 of the text. (700 words)
4. What decision was finally made? To what extent do you believe this was the best option,
and why? (400 words)
This assignment requires an essay response of approximately 1,500 words where all four of
the above criteria need to be addressed (plus the introduction and conclusion). The allocation
of words dealing with each section are suggested only, you are encouraged to make your own
decision on this matter. Overall marks will awarded on the basis of the quality of your
response. In this instance, quality means demonstrating an appreciation of the complexity that
surrounds ethical decision-making. In other words, simplistic responses will not be awarded
a high mark.

Assignment II
Refer to the Case 8 (Crane and Matten 2010):
‘Targeting the poor with microfinance: hype or hope for poverty reduction?’
Please answer the following questions:
1. Consider the market for financial services in developing countries in terms of
consumer exclusion. What forms of financial exclusion are being practiced by
mainstream financial institutions, and how legitimate is this practice? (600 words)
2. In what ways might microfinance improve the lives of the poor? (200 words)
3. To what extent is microfinance likely to have a significant impact on poverty
alleviation? Where, in your opinion, should governments, civil society, and business
be focussing their attention in addressing poverty? (600 words)
4. Are microfinance lenders justified in charging high rates of interest to poor
borrowers? What exactly is a fair price in this context? (300 words)
5. Consider the case of regulation of microfinance pricing. Would this help or hinder
the plight of the poor? (300 words)
This response requires a report format (2,000 words approx.). Again, the words allocated for
each section are discretionary. Marks will be awarded on the basis of quality, which in this
instance refers to how well you demonstrate a deep understanding of the issues involved and
the inadequacy of simplistic solutions with appropriate emphasis on where you see the major
lever change in this situation. Refer to the Communications Skills Handbook for correct
formatting details.
