Therefore, descriptive study design was not appropriate for this study.Another method of quantitative research is correlational research, which determines the extent of a relationship between two or more variables using statistical data. Relationships between or amongst a number of facts are interpreted to recognize trends and data patterns, but not establish cause and effect. Specifically, data, the relationships amongst data, and distributions of variables are observed only and not manipulated (Clement et al., 2015). Variables are identified and studied, as they occur naturally. An example of this is the relationship between diet and anxiety (Haslam & McGarty, 2014). The correlational study design attempts to determine the extent to which two factors are related to each other without an existing cause-effect relationship (Creswell, 2014). Causal-comparative research design for this study attempts to establish cause-effect relationships between variables, not only determine the extent to which two factors are related to each other without an existing cause-effect relationship (Haslam & McGarty, 2014; Creswell, 2014). Therefore, correlational study design was not appropriate for this study.The final quantitative method of research is true experimentation, which employs the scientific method to establish a cause-effect relationship amongst a group of variables that make up the study. A laboratory study is most often considered a true experiment, even though just being in a laboratory doesnt have much to do with it. Specifically, a true experiment is any study where efforts are made to identify and control all the variables except for one variable (Creswell, 2014). An independent variable is manipulated to determine the effects on the dependent variables. Subjects are randomly assigned to experimental treatments rather than identified in naturally occurring groups. The true experimental study design attempts to establish cause-effect relationships among the variables by manipulating independent variable to determine the effects on the dependent variables (Creswell, 2014). Whereas causal-comparative research design for this study attempts to establish cause-effect relationships among the variables without manipulating independent variables and serves to determine the effects on the dependent variables (Haslam & McGarty, 2014; Creswell, 2014). Therefore, true experimental study design was not appropriate for this study as well. Based on above discussion, a casual-comparative study design was selected as the best design for this study.
