Abstract Childhood obesity seems to be an epidemic that is on the rise around the globe. There are many factors that contribute to children being obese, being they do not get an adequate amount of exercise nor do they consume enough foods that contain the proper nutrition. In this paper, the effects of childhood obesity within schools and how obesity can be overcome are being examined among different ages of children. Many research methods were used in conducting research on the following topic (Cross sectional, longitudinal, systematic review, qualitative, quantitative, experimental, quasi experimental and randomized controlled trial). Research has proven that in order to combat childhood obesity within schools physical activity must increase, along with changing the foods that are consumed by the students, limiting the amount of sugar and low nutrient foods that they eat. Moving forward changes in school food policies must be enforced and increasing the necessary time for physical education must be reviewed. Even though this research is more geared towards the school environment administrators and teachers can possibly send home nutritional information in the form of a newsletter or pamphlet in order to tackle obesity within the home environment as well.
