Reflection Paper: Islam, the Arab Spring and the Death of Gaddafi by Tariq Ramadan
Write a reflection paper based on Tariq Ramadan lecture :
Tariq Ramadan was in our university and these few points about what he said in his lecture, and this assignment is based on what he said:
What Tareq Ramadan mentioned in the lecture :
After the uprising in Tunisia I was thinking if it gonna happen in Egypt, I said would be better and not look at it as a chess game. Why happen her not their, who’s protected who’s not. You don’t know what would happen if someone said No. Example yemen.
Arab emotional by reaction, to get my optimism right, support the people who say No to the dictatorship . The people will ask for freedom in the street chanting “People want to take down the regime” “We are against the dictatorship”
The revolutions all about economy, we in the arab world said yes it’s good when the west control our economy, but this is totally wrong.
He kept saying during the lecture “don’t be naive”
Revolutions take time, we are told; not to hurry. History shows that freedom has a price. True. We must remain committed, dedicated and optimistic, yet neither excessively idealistic or naive. The situation in Tunisia, and even moreso in Egypt, gives cause for concern: in both countries the political landscape closely resembles chaos. Polarization between secular and Islamist trends prevents any serious discussion about the main social and economic challenges facing the respective countries. The Armed Forces are watching, if not monitoring, developments within Tunisian and Egyptian society, while foreign countries are readjusting their positions and strategies. It may well be true that we will not return to the old dictatorships but it is unclear what kind of democracy we will get. Some think it is simply too soon to tell. We would suggest that it is not a question of time but rather a problem of substance and of geopolitical considerations. What we are witnessing is far from being an Arab spring.
What happen before the revolution, I can’t call it a revolution because I’m not sure if those revolutions are achieved or not yet.
When the Bo Azizi killed himself people was shocked, The wares of a young street vendor, Mohammed Bouazizi, had been confiscated and he had set himself on fire in protest. His act could be explained by such factors as an unbearable economic situation, poverty, unemployment, police repression and authoritarian rule. The following weeks were to bring dramatic change to the Middle-East, North Africa and the world.
Analysis suggests that the term “Revolution” is somewhat excessive. Can we really call this a revolution, either from the perspective of political order or of the economic balance of powers? Are those popular movements over and have they reached their objectives? Clearly not, and it is far too early for us to say that they will. Yet, the extreme position that sees the absolute, all-knowing hand of the Western powers behind those mass mobilizations seems just as excessive. Obviously, from Tunisia to Syria through Egypt.
All what happen not started to work one year ago libya began different because it’s civil war, how it’s possible all these social networks “All of this fact is in the book” the book that he recently published.
How come “Google” support in Egypt not Syria
Why western power support the leader and now support the opponents?
Go country by country, Tunisia quite stabilized one success after the book was released I was very through with Gaddafi’s regim Gaddafi not only crazy, he is also clever he tried to connect Africa (unite)
Final point : do not remove the islamic factor, even if they are not islamist. The relationship between Islam and the uprising -the second part of the book
