How to develop the questions you want to ask at your visit.
?A case study of a relatively mundane FMCG item with a complex supply chain strategy, both in terms of its upstream and downstream operations.
?It is vitally important that the questions you ask are focussed around the organisation you are going to see, and their supply chain perspectives
?Generic questions can often disengage those you are speaking too
?Well researched questions send the right message to your interviewees
?Background searches such as company profiles, sector reports, trade press, journals etc can help you better position your questions.
?This is particularly important if you have no prior knowledge of the organisation you are visiting, but even if you do, it is still important for other team members to ?catch up?.
?The more you read, the better informed your questions will be !
?Don?t use closed questions that can restrict answers to little more than ?yes? or ?no?
?Always start with a question that acts as an introduction to lower barriers
?Time your questions before you go, the groups must respect that the people you are seeing are making time in their work day for you.
?Given that people are freeing up their diary to see you, each group should plan for the interview to last just under an hour
?Some people will gladly give you more than an hour without even realising it. Always ensure that you have a couple of backup questions in ?the back pocket? should this opportunity arise
?If you are invited to tour the facility however small it is, take the opportunity as you can then walk and talk ~ more free info !
