I carried out a Health Promotion Intervention project (The Title was: – A health promotion intervention to increase awareness on the health risks associated with alcohol abuse among London Metropolitan University Undergraduate Students, aged (18-40) at London University. PLEASE NOTE: Write a report of this intervention. Your REPORT must provide adequate information about: – the initiative; rationale for choosing the topic; characteristics of the target group; clear aims and objectives. Explain how these relate to health promotion theory. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used to implement the plan. Demonstrate evidence-based practice through process and outcome evaluation.
More specifically, the sub-titles of your report should reflect the following:
a) Introduction and rationale for selecting the topic and the target group.
a) Specific aims and objectives of the initiative. (Aims are the long-term goals. Objectives are the short-term goals, these should show what the recipients are expected to know, or feel, or do).
b) Review of relevant literature. Theories of health promotion. Advantages and disadvantages of various health promotion methods and approaches. Discussion about international, national, and local health promoting policies.
c) A brief description of the contents of the talk and video display,
d) Discussion about the methods/approaches adopted.
e) Explanation of the methods used for evaluation during and after the activity.
f) Suggest recommendations for future health promotion initiatives.
g) A bibliography of all references cited in your report and details of relevant printed material. Brief appendices may be included.

This module focuses on the local, national and international perspectives of health promotion. The World Health Organisation’s proposals for ‘Health for All’ provide a useful basis for comparison with local initiatives. Social, political and economic factors influencing health choices and the impact of recent legislative changes shall be examined.
Current developments in UK health promotion related to changes in society will be examined. The module shall use examples from current practice to debate and evaluate a range of health promotion strategies and targets. This module will is delivered through lectures and interactive workshops aimed at enhancing the exploration and understanding of some practical aspects of health promotion. Opportunity would be provided for student centred activities, outside visits and self-directed study.

Explore various evaluation reports and research studies

LEARNING OUTCOMES: On completion of the module students should be able to:
• Select and use appropriate information to promote health of individuals and groups.
• Make ethical evaluations about current health issues and approaches to health promotion.
• Participate in group presentations and use audio visual aids.
• Access and use appropriate resources to promote the health of individuals and groups in the community.
• Collate and use information from various sources to analyse and evaluate health promotion initiatives.

The aim of this mini-Health Promotion project is to promote healthy walking among undergraduate students on a health promotion programme in a North London campus of the Londonmet University.

At the end of the intervention, all participants should be able to:

1. Identify seven health benefits of walking

2. State four health risks associated with incessant use of lifts between lectures

3. Identify six safety practices in walking

Areas of parity or disagreement would also be considered)

I suggest you refer to your objectives at this stage and consider how each of the items are discussed in literature (EXAMPLE: I might chose to discuss relevant academic literature in relation to the three key objectives I have identified above – i.e. the health benefits of walking; health risks associated with incessant use of lifts; safety practices in walking. METHODS (You may choose to combine methods with your discussion of CONTENTS OF THE TALK):
• State number of participants and if necessary, their age range

• Show how and why you employed the educational approach (you may have used a different approach. This is an example) and compare this with other approaches justifying why this is the best approach/model for achieving your objectives

• Discuss the processes involved. For example how you carried out:
• a structured questionnaire pilot survey to identify the baseline knowledge level of your target group (what are the benefits and demerits of using questionnaires in this way???) Remember this considers knowledge level because my intervention in this example is based on the educational approach.

• your intervention which consists of a health talk/ leaflet distribution to 10 students e.t.c. on the health promotion programme in London Met (you need to justify why 10 – for instance say if you chose 10 students because of the constraints of time)

• evaluated or measured the outcomes of your intervention to find out if your stated OBJECTIVES above have been satisfied – for example through comparing the responses of your target group before your intervention with responses after your intervention
• Your last questionnaire should ask the same questions asked the first time to see if there are now more people with the right answers (for the educational approach)
